ABBA Museum

Ideal: Ideal for music, pop culture, and entertaining museum experiences.

Opened in 2013, its slogan sums up how it works: walk in, dance out. There is a known reason the stage costumes are so extravagant — in Sweden stage outfits could only be tax-deductible if too absurd to wear in everyday life. In the museum you can take the stage with the group's holograms and mix tracks in a recording studio. A phone in one corner has a number known only to the four members; when it rings a visitor answers — Björn Ulvaeus has said the phone really does ring.

Did you know?

Why does the museum say "touching is a must"?

Its slogan inverts the usual museum rule. Visitors can step on stage and sing with a hologram ABBA, record in the studio and try on costumes.

Why were the stage costumes so extravagant?

Swedish tax rules allowed stage clothing to be deducted as an expense if it was too outlandish to wear in daily life. That is part of why the band's outfits went so far.

Why does the telephone in the museum ring?

Only the four ABBA members know the number of the red phone on display. They occasionally call, and whichever visitor is standing nearby answers it.

Why go?
