Parliament Hill

The main building burned in 1916 during the First World War, and the cause was never firmly established — sabotage theories still circulate. Only the library survived because a clerk shut its iron doors in time; it remains the most distinctive part of the complex. The 92-metre Peace Tower was added during the wartime rebuild. The Centennial Flame in front has burned without interruption since 1967.
