CN Tower

The 553-metre tower was completed in 1976 and remained the world's tallest free-standing structure for thirty-two years. The glass floor added in 1994 can support the weight of fourteen hippos. On the EdgeWalk, visitors stroll the outer ring at 356 metres with no railing — only a safety harness. Lightning strikes the tower nearly seventy-five times a year, but copper strips running down the shaft carry the charge to ground without damage.
