North Cape (Nordkapp)
Ideal: Ideal for northern routes, road trips, special experiences, and lovers of nature's extremes.
At latitude 71° 10' north, a cliff 307 metres above the sea. Technically not mainland Europe's northernmost point: Knivskjellodden 1,450 metres further north is farther north, and this is an island — but because you can drive here, the symbolic title settled on this spot. From mid-May to late July the sun never sets. The visitor centre carved into the rock has a cinema and panoramic glass wall; outside, wind can be punishing even in midsummer.

Is Nordkapp really Europe's northernmost point?
Not exactly. The Knivskjellodden headland on the same island reaches about 1,500 m further north, and neither is on the mainland. Nordkapp became the symbol because it is easy to reach.
How long does the midnight sun last?
From mid-May to late July the sun never sets — about 76 days. In winter, from late November to late January, it never rises.
How do you get there?
By road, via an undersea tunnel to the island. In winter the final stretch opens only at set times in a guided convoy — you cannot drive it alone.
