Aspendos Antik Tiyatrosu
Aspendos Antik Tiyatrosu is one of the notable stops in Antalya, with a route-friendly location for your trip.
Did you know?
Why is Aspendos one of the best-preserved ancient theatres?
Built in the 2nd century AD, it is one of the few Roman theatres whose stage building survives complete. The Seljuks used it as a caravanserai and maintained it, and that continuous use is what kept it standing.
Are the acoustics really that good?
Yes. A normal speaking voice on stage can be heard from the top row of the 7,000-seat cavea, thanks to the stage building reflecting sound back and the calculated rake of the seating.
Is the theatre still used?
Yes. The Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival is held here annually, with temporary platforms installed on the stage and seating to protect the structure.
