Space Center Houston

Ideal: Ideal for space, science, technology, family trips, and interactive museums.

The first word spoken from the lunar surface was this city's name: 'Houston, Tranquility Base here.' The Apollo-era Mission Control room was restored in 2019 to its 1969 condition — consoles, ashtrays, and coffee cups on the desks included. One of three surviving Saturn V rockets lies horizontally inside; walking beside the 111-meter body is the only way to grasp the scale. Outside, a shuttle mockup sits atop the real Boeing 747 that carried orbiters.

Why go?

  • To see NASA and the American space program up close
  • To explore rockets, mission simulations, and astronaut stories
  • To add a strong science and technology stop to a Texas route
