Big Bend National Park

At 3,242 square kilometers it is larger than some U.S. states and takes its name from the Rio Grande's wide bend here. It holds International Dark Sky Park certification: among continental U.S. national parks it has some of the least light pollution, and on a clear night more than two thousand stars are visible to the naked eye. With more than 450 bird species it is also the country's richest park for birds. From Boquillas Crossing you can row across to the village on the Mexican side.
