At 27 hectares it is America's largest contiguous arts district. Its distinction is not density but signatures: four separate Pritzker Prize winners — Renzo Piano, I. M. Pei, Norman Foster, and Rem Koolhaas — have buildings side by side, a concentration found nowhere else. The Winspear Opera House's red glass shell and the Nasher Sculpture Center's daylight-filtering roof are among the most talked-about details.
