Why are there three bridges side by side?
The central stone bridge dates from 1842. In 1932 Plečnik added a pedestrian bridge on each side to solve congestion, unifying all three into one design.
Are there cars in the city centre?
No. Ljubljana's centre has been progressively closed to traffic since 2007; today only small electric vehicles and bicycles use it — a decision often cited as a European model.
When is the riverside market held?
Plečnik's colonnaded market hall trades on weekdays and Saturdays. On summer Fridays the square hosts the open-air food festival Odprta Kuhna.
