Did you know?
Why was the castle built inside a cave?
It sits in a natural cave mouth halfway up a 123 m cliff, with a tunnel network behind providing a hidden exit — a position that made it extraordinarily hard to besiege.
What is the story of the knight Erazem?
Besieged in the 15th century, Erazem used the secret tunnel to bring in fresh fruit and taunt his besiegers with it. He was finally killed by a cannon shot while in the privy, betrayed by a servant.
Is the cave behind the castle open?
Yes, but only from May to September. It closes in winter because a bat colony hibernates there.
