Did you know?

Why is Triglav Slovenia's symbol?

At 2,864 m it is the country's highest point and appears on the flag. A local saying holds that a true Slovene should climb Triglav at least once.

Why is the Soča River that colour?

Its emerald colour comes from extremely fine mineral particles dissolved out of limestone reflecting the light. The colour holds year-round and the Soča is one of Europe's clearest rivers.

What historic events took place in the valley?

The Isonzo Front of the First World War saw twelve major battles here and hundreds of thousands of deaths. Ernest Hemingway drew on this front for A Farewell to Arms.
