Petrovaradin Fortress
Ideal: Fortification history, photography and river-view enthusiasts
Petrovaradin Fortress rises above the right bank of the Danube opposite Novi Sad. Most of the present complex took shape under Habsburg rule between the late 17th and 18th centuries. The upper terraces, distinctive clock tower and river panorama are its best-known features, while museums, galleries and artists' studios occupy parts of the fortress. Underground galleries should only be entered as part of an authorised visit, as they form an extensive and specialised part of the defensive system.
