Knez Mihailova is Belgrade's main pedestrian and shopping street. Protected late-19th-century façades, passages, cultural institutions, bookshops and cafés line the route between Republic Square and Kalemegdan. Its central position makes it a natural connection between several major sights, but the architecture and side streets are worth attention in their own right. Walking the full length reveals a more complete picture of everyday city life than a quick shopping stop.
