Mudam

Ideal: Ideal for modern art, architecture, and contemporary culture.

The museum that opened in 2006 was designed by I. M. Pei, who also created the Louvre's glass pyramid, and the building sits on the foundations of the 18th-century Fort Thüngen bastion. Pei incorporated the old ramparts into the design rather than demolishing them: the glass and limestone body follows the triangular trace drawn by the historic walls, so a fortress defines the building's plan. The collection focuses on contemporary art and exhibitions change often; the glass courtyard at the entrance is worth seeing on its own.
