The 42-kilometer stretch of the river within Luxembourg is the country's only wine region; Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Auxerrois dominate. The region's signature is Crémant de Luxembourg, protected since 1991 — sparkling wine made by the champagne method. Viticulture here goes back to the Romans: villa and wine-press remains from the 2nd–3rd centuries were found around Remich. River boats leaving Remich are the easiest way to see the hillside terraces from water level.

Why is Luxembourg wine little known?
Production is small and most of it is drunk domestically. The region is known for Riesling, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris, and for Crémant de Luxembourg made by the traditional method.
Was the Schengen Agreement signed here?
Yes. It was signed in 1985 aboard a boat on the Moselle at the point where three countries' borders meet. The village now has a small European museum.
What is the best way to see the valley?
The riverside cycle path and the summer river boats. Many wineries are open to visitors and offer small-scale tastings.
