Christiania
Ideal: For alternative culture, street art, and authentic neighbourhood atmosphere.
Founded in 1971 when a group occupied an abandoned military barracks; about a thousand people live today on 34 hectares, and the community has its own flag of three yellow circles on a red field. The rules have been the same from the start: no cars, no weapons, no hard drugs. Cannabis stalls tolerated for decades were dismantled by residents themselves after violent incidents in 2024, and police were invited in. Photography is still forbidden in some areas.
