Born in Breda in the Netherlands, Tiësto was among the first to take electronic music to stadium scale in the early 2000s. His catalogue runs from a trance-rooted early period to today's broader electronic pop, and which part of it you hear depends entirely on the type of set.
There are three ways to see him and they do not resemble each other: a festival main stage, a club residency in Ibiza or Las Vegas, and his own arena show. Knowing which one you are going to decides how the night will go.

Achievements and milestones
- Won a Grammy Award and has been nominated repeatedly in electronic categories.
- Ranked number one in DJ polls in consecutive years.
- Became the first DJ to perform at an Olympic opening ceremony, in Athens in 2004.
- Regarded as one of the first to bring electronic music to arena and stadium scale.
- Has toured continuously for more than thirty years.
Three different set types
On a festival main stage the set runs 60-75 minutes and is built entirely on the known tracks, with huge LED walls, pyrotechnics and synchronised lighting. The crowd is counted in tens of thousands and getting near the stage means holding a spot for hours.
In a club residency the set passes two hours and the repertoire goes far deeper — the early trance material lives there. Capacity is a few thousand and the sound system is much closer. Arena shows sit between the two: big production, long set.
- Festival: 60-75 minutes, the hits, huge production, tens of thousands of people.
- Club: two hours or more, deeper repertoire, a few thousand people.
- Arena: long set and large production together, with seated categories too.
- Main stage closing slots run late; plan the way back in advance.
The Amsterdam and Ibiza calendar
Amsterdam Dance Event in October fills hundreds of venues across the city in one week, and the big special sets land there. Accommodation doubles or triples in price that week and sells out months ahead.
The Ibiza season runs from late May to early October and residency nights are fixed to one night of the week. If you are going to the island, check the schedule before booking flights; landing on the wrong day means an empty night even mid-season.

Ticket types and paying inside the venue
Large festivals sell day, weekend and camping packages separately, and camping sells out first. At club nights advance tickets are noticeably cheaper than the door price; buying at the door is always the most expensive option.
Payment inside normally runs on tokens or a wristband balance. Do not top up more than you need — refunds of unused credit require a separate claim and carry a fee.
Before and after: what to do in the city
The night ends late, so do not fill the following day with a heavy itinerary. Spreading the city across the day before the set works far better.
In Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum share a square and fill a day together; both sell timed tickets. The Anne Frank House is sold online only and goes weeks in advance. To keep the day of the set light, a canal cruise shows the city in an hour, sitting down.
What to know before you go
- Decide festival, club or arena before you buy; they are different nights.
- Main stage closing slots run late; check the last public transport departure.
- At club nights advance tickets are clearly cheaper than the door.
- Do not overload the festival wristband balance; refunds are awkward.
- Volume is very high; earplugs do not spoil the sound, they clarify it.
How to plan travel around the concert
If you are flying abroad for a Tiësto show, the order should be: buy the ticket first, search for flights only once you have it, and stay in a neighbourhood 20–30 minutes from the venue by public transport. Plan to be in the city at least a day before; a morning-of flight that runs late means missing the show.
If the same tour has several European stops, compare the combined cost of ticket, flights and two nights' stay across three cities. London, Paris and Amsterdam sell out fastest and cost the most; Berlin, Milan, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are usually easier for tickets and noticeably cheaper overall.

Frequently asked questions
Festival or club for Tiësto?
Choose a festival main stage for production and atmosphere, a club residency for musical depth and a longer set. The club set is both longer and usually cheaper.
When should I go to Ibiza?
The season runs from late May to early October. Residency nights are fixed to one night of the week, so pick your flight dates around the schedule; the wrong day means an empty night.
When is Amsterdam Dance Event?
Usually mid-October, running five days. Accommodation doubles or triples that week and sells out months ahead, so book the room before the ticket.
