Born in Amstelveen in the Netherlands, Martin Garrix topped the charts with Animals in 2013 at seventeen. He went on to found his own label and became one of the most visible names on electronic festival main stages. Amsterdam is still the centre of his calendar.
There are two entirely different ways to see him: a festival main stage or a club set. Both are the same artist, but they differ completely in length, repertoire, crowd and cost. Deciding which one you want before buying shapes the whole night.

Achievements and milestones
- Topped international charts with Animals at the age of seventeen.
- Ranked number one in DJ polls more than once.
- Founded his own independent label to control his release schedule.
- Closed the main stage at the largest electronic festivals in the world.
- Plays regular special sets during Amsterdam Dance Event week.
Festival set or club set?
On a festival main stage the set runs 60-75 minutes, is built on the well-known tracks and comes with an enormous production: LED walls, pyrotechnics and synchronised lighting. The crowd is counted in tens of thousands, and getting near the stage means holding a spot for hours.
A club set can run beyond two hours, and the repertoire opens up to deeper, less familiar tracks. Capacity is a few thousand, the sound system is much closer, and the night is built around dancing. It is also noticeably cheaper than a festival ticket.
- Festival: 60-75 minutes, the hits, huge production, tens of thousands of people.
- Club: two hours or more, deeper repertoire, a few thousand people, cheaper entry.
- Main stage closing slots run late; plan the way back before you go.
- Club nights fill after midnight and the set often ends near dawn.
An Amsterdam-centred calendar
Garrix's calendar clusters around Amsterdam. Amsterdam Dance Event in October fills hundreds of venues across the city in a single week, and the big special sets land there. Accommodation prices double or triple that week and sell out months ahead.
In summer the calendar is driven by the large open-air festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium. Their tickets often sell out within minutes of going live, so registration and pre-sale access are effectively mandatory.

Ticket types and camping options
Large festivals sell day tickets, weekend tickets and camping packages separately. Camping sells out first; if you would rather not camp, staying in a nearby town and using the shuttle is usually cheaper.
Payment inside festival grounds normally runs on tokens or a wristband balance. Do not top up more than you need — refunds of unused credit usually require a separate claim and carry a fee.
Before and after: what to do in Amsterdam
The night will end late, so do not fill the following day with a heavy itinerary. Spreading the city across the day before the set works far better.
Book timed tickets for the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum — they share a square and fill a day together. The Anne Frank House is sold online only and goes weeks in advance. To keep the day of the set light, a canal cruise is a good option: you see the city sitting down.
What to know before you go
- Decide festival or club before you buy; they are two completely different nights.
- Main stage closing slots run late; check the last public transport departure.
- Camping packages sell out first, so book early if you want one.
- Do not overload the festival wristband balance; refunds are awkward.
- Volume is very high; earplugs do not spoil the sound, they clarify it.
How to plan travel around the concert
If you are flying abroad for a Martin Garrix show, the order should be: buy the ticket first, search for flights only once you have it, and stay in a neighbourhood 20–30 minutes from the venue by public transport. Plan to be in the city at least a day before; a morning-of flight that runs late means missing the show.
If the same tour has several European stops, compare the combined cost of ticket, flights and two nights' stay across three cities. London, Paris and Amsterdam sell out fastest and cost the most; Berlin, Milan, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are usually easier for tickets and noticeably cheaper overall.

Frequently asked questions
Festival or club for Martin Garrix?
Choose a festival main stage for production and atmosphere, a club for musical depth and a longer set. The club set is both longer and usually cheaper.
When is Amsterdam Dance Event?
Usually mid-October, running five days. Accommodation doubles or triples in price that week and sells out months ahead, so book the room before the ticket.
How do festival tickets work?
At the large Dutch festivals you register first, then sales open at a set time and the allocation is gone within minutes. Do not rely on general sale without registering.
