Millennium Park

Ideal: Ideal for first-time visitors, photographers, city walks, and cultural itineraries.

The park does not sit on ground level: active railroad tracks and a huge parking garage run underneath, making it one of the world's largest roof gardens. It opened in 2004 four years late and at roughly triple the budget. The steel pipe lattice over Frank Gehry's stage is not decoration: it spreads speakers directly above the audience to create indoor hall acoustics outdoors. On Crown Fountain's two glass towers the faces of a thousand Chicagoans appear in rotation and spout water from their mouths.
