Airport assistance for reduced-mobility passengers in the EU
Airport assistance is free, but describing the need early and precisely helps provide the right staff and equipment.

Under EU rules, disabled passengers and people with reduced mobility are entitled to free assistance at airports and at certain flight stages. For the best arrangement, notify the airline, ticket seller or tour operator at least 48 hours before travel.

Describe the need in the booking
Writing only 'wheelchair' may not explain stair use, transfer needs or visual and hearing support. Send the details in writing.

- Confirm support at transfer and arrival.
Understand the scope of assistance
EU guidance includes help with baggage, boarding and disembarking, and carriage of recognised assistance dogs, medical equipment and up to two pieces of mobility equipment. Staff are not required to feed passengers or administer medicine.
Report damage before leaving the terminal
Report lost or damaged mobility equipment immediately and obtain photographs and a report. If the response is inadequate, contact the national enforcement body. Store records with the document backup guide.
