Fifth Avenue

Ideal: Ideal for shopping, city walks, window browsing, and Manhattan atmosphere.

The avenue regularly tops lists as one of the world's most expensive retail streets by rent per square meter. Manhattan's address system also pivots on it: whether a street is east or west is determined relative to Fifth Avenue. The stretch between 82nd and 105th Streets is called Museum Mile, with nine museums lined up along a short strip. Rockefeller Center's giant Christmas tree and ice rink and the 1878 St. Patrick's Cathedral both sit on the same avenue.
