The miniature world opened by twin brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun in 2001 is today the world's largest model railway layout, with more than 16 kilometres of track, over 1,000 trains, and roughly 300,000 figures. Hall lighting shifts from day to night every fifteen minutes and thousands of tiny windows light up individually. At Knuffingen Airport planes actually taxi and take off. Scenes are packed with humour: look closely and you'll find hundreds of small stories — fires, weddings, accidents, and even a nudist beach.

Yes — with over 16 km of track and more than a thousand trains it holds the Guinness record for the largest model railway. Construction started in 2000 and expansion is still ongoing.
Is there a working airport inside?
In the Knuffingen Airport section model aircraft actually taxi, accelerate and "take off", retract their gear and land again. A concealed mechanism drives it, and it is the most-watched part of the attraction.
Why do the lights keep changing?
The layout runs a 15-minute day-night cycle. When dusk falls roughly 500,000 LEDs switch on — shop windows, car headlights, stadium floodlights and concert stages all light up separately.
