Počitelj Historic Village

Ideal: Historic-village, architecture and landscape-photography enthusiasts

Počitelj climbs a steep hillside above the Neretva valley in a coherent landscape of stone houses, religious buildings, a clock tower and fortifications. With medieval origins and an urban form strongly shaped during Ottoman rule, it appears on UNESCO's Tentative List. The settlement is best experienced by walking slowly from the lower road toward the upper fortress rather than stopping for a roadside photograph. It remains a living village, so private spaces should be respected.
