Placebo was formed in London in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, and is one of the few bands from the nineties British alternative scene still touring. Nancy Boy, Every You Every Me and The Bitter End still form the spine of the set.

The band is bigger on the European continent than in Britain: they tour large rooms regularly in Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and Scandinavia. So the most sensible city to travel to for a Placebo show is often not London.

Achievements and milestones

  • Came out of the nineties British alternative scene and has toured for more than thirty years.
  • Their reading of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill became the band's best-known cover.
  • Has a wider audience on the European continent than in Britain.
  • Returned to a full European tour with Never Let Me Go after a long gap.
  • One of the few major bands taking an explicit stance against phones at shows.

The phone rule

On recent tours the band openly asks the audience not to use phones during the show. In some venues that stays an announcement; in others phones may be placed in lockable pouches at the door. Do not go without reading the note on the page of the event you bought.

In practice the rule improves the concert: no raised screens in front of you and the room stays dark. But agree a meeting point and a plan for getting back beforehand — you may not be able to reach your phone inside the venue.

  • There is an explicit stance against phone use.
  • Some venues may use lockable pouches.
  • Agree your meeting point before the show.
  • Because the room stays dark, the lighting design lands harder.

Tickets and the tour route

The route typically starts in Spain and ends in the British Isles after Germany, Scandinavia and Central Europe. Germany gets five or six cities on a single tour, which makes the German dates the most flexible option for travellers from Türkiye.

Tickets are far easier to find than on big pop tours and can still be available months after general on-sale. The price range is narrow; the gap between floor and seating is limited.

Set structure and venues

The set leans on the newest album, with the classics spread through the night and a short encore. Shows are played in mid-sized rooms rather than stadiums, which means the stage is visible from everywhere.

The lighting is dense and high-contrast, with long strobe sections. If you are sensitive to that, take a side stand.

What to know before you go

  • Check the phone rule on the page of the event you bought.
  • Agree your meeting point and route home before the show.
  • There are long strobe sections; a side stand is easier if you are sensitive.
  • Rooms are mid-sized, so the risk of a bad sightline is low.
  • German dates are the easiest for both tickets and flights.

How to plan travel around the concert

If you are flying abroad for a Placebo show, the order should be: buy the ticket first, search for flights only once you have it, and stay in a neighbourhood 20–30 minutes from the venue by public transport. Plan to be in the city at least a day before; a morning-of flight that runs late means missing the show.

If the same tour has several European stops, compare the combined cost of ticket, flights and two nights' stay across three cities. London, Paris and Amsterdam sell out fastest and cost the most; Berlin, Milan, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are usually easier for tickets and noticeably cheaper overall.
