Travel guide
Food and water safety while travelling
Appearance alone does not prove food is safe; cooking, temperature, water and hand hygiene all matter.
Prepared by the FlyVentis editorial team and regularly reviewed for travel and event accuracy.

Contaminated food and water can transmit several infections. Where sanitation is uncertain, fully cooked food served hot and drinks from a safe source are more controlled choices.
This is prevention guidance, not treatment. Plan medicines with the medication guide and seek care for concerning symptoms.
Assess food carefully
Raw animal products, unpasteurised dairy and raw produce can carry pathogens. Peel fruit yourself after rinsing it with safe water.
Practical checklist
- Choose fully cooked food served hot.
- Avoid raw meat, shellfish and eggs.
- Use sealed bottled or adequately treated water.
- Wash hands with soap before eating.
Water has more than one use
If tap water safety is uncertain, use safe water for drinking, ice, brushing teeth and food preparation. Alcohol hand rub is a backup, not a complete replacement for washing.
