Formed in Nashville in 1999 by three brothers and a cousin, Kings of Leon first drew attention — especially in Britain — with a raw, fast southern rock sound. With Only by the Night the sound widened, the production grew and the band moved from arenas to stadiums.

That shift shapes the live show: a Kings of Leon concert is like hearing two different bands in one night. The early material is short, fast and loud; the later songs are wide and mid-tempo. The setlist exists to balance those poles.

Achievements and milestones

  • Won multiple Grammy Awards for Use Somebody and Sex on Fire.
  • Only by the Night became one of the best-selling rock albums worldwide.
  • Headlined major festivals including Glastonbury.
  • Sold out stadium tours in the United Kingdom.
  • Still performing with the same family line-up they started with.

Balancing two eras

The set usually opens mid-tempo, runs through a fast stretch of early material in the middle and closes with the stadium songs. Sex on Fire and Use Somebody almost always land in the final section.

Good news for fans of the early records: recent tours have brought back more from the first two albums. But those songs sit in the middle of the set, so arriving late means missing them.

  • The set runs 20-22 songs, about an hour and 45 minutes.
  • Early material is concentrated in the middle of the set.
  • The two best-known songs are in the finale; leaving early makes no sense.
  • Staging is lighting- and screen-led, with no large effects.

Stage layout and choosing a ticket

They use a classic end stage with a short runway. That weakens the back half of the floor; if you do not need to be close, the central blocks of the lower tier are the better call.

The band builds a guitar-led sound and the mix is most balanced in the middle of the room. On the floor the bass dominates; for detail, mid-distance is better.

Kings of Leon upcoming dates

How the European leg works

Their strongest market is the UK and Ireland, where dates sell out fastest and the atmosphere is loudest. On the mainland, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Scandinavia are regular stops.

At summer festivals the set drops to 75-90 minutes and only the familiar songs are played. For the full repertoire, choose one of their own arena or stadium dates.

Making the most of the concert week

The show runs under two hours and ends early, which makes the next day easy to plan. Even so, being in the city a day early removes the flight risk.

On a London date, the British Museum and the London Eye fill a day comfortably. On an Amsterdam date, the Rijksmuseum plus a canal cruise shows the city without wearing you out; keep the concert morning light.

What to know before you go

  • The set runs about an hour and 45 minutes; plan three hours with the support act.
  • Early material sits mid-set, so do not arrive late.
  • The two best-known songs close the night; stay to the end.
  • Bass dominates on the floor; mid blocks give more detail.
  • UK and Irish crowds are noticeably more vocal.

How to plan travel around the concert

If you are flying abroad for a Kings of Leon show, the order should be: buy the ticket first, search for flights only once you have it, and stay in a neighbourhood 20–30 minutes from the venue by public transport. Plan to be in the city at least a day before; a morning-of flight that runs late means missing the show.

If the same tour has several European stops, compare the combined cost of ticket, flights and two nights' stay across three cities. London, Paris and Amsterdam sell out fastest and cost the most; Berlin, Milan, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are usually easier for tickets and noticeably cheaper overall.

Keep planning
