Abel Tesfaye's The Weeknd project rebuilt both its sound and its visuals on the path from the dark, lo-fi mixtape trilogy of 2011 to today's stadium scale. The Starboy and After Hours years put him at the centre of radio pop; with Dawn FM the concept-album approach returned.

The most distinctive part of the concerts is the stage design. Recent tours build the stage as a ruined city model with a giant moon figure; the choir and dancers move as part of that set. Lighting is often built around a single colour per song, so seeing the production as a whole matters more than proximity to the stage.

Achievements and milestones

  • Blinding Lights became the longest-charting song in Billboard Hot 100 history.

  • Headlined the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show on his own.
  • Went from a dark, lo-fi mixtape trilogy to stadium scale.

How stage design and ticket category relate

The stage is completed by a catwalk along the long side of the stadium and a second platform at the end. He moves along that path throughout the show, so the middle and rear of the floor also get close contact.

CategoryWho it is for
Floor (catwalk edge)The best pick if you want close contact
Floor (centre)High energy, but the stage set is not visible as a whole

Upper bowlBudget-focused; the production is still fully visible

Tour setup and city choice

European legs usually fall in summer and are limited to large stadiums: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm, Warsaw and Milan are typical stops. Because the city count is limited, demand concentrates; moving early really matters here.

North American legs hit more cities, but the cost of flying from Turkey is clearly higher than Europe. Picking a European stop and keeping the total budget down is the more sensible move in most cases.

Repertoire

The setlist covers three eras at once: early dark R&B tracks, the radio hits from Starboy and After Hours, and the synth-pop of Dawn FM. Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears, The Hills and Starboy are played almost every night. The show usually runs close to two hours.

What to know before you go

  • Floor sections along the catwalk give the closest experience; if you buy a floor ticket, aim for that area.
  • The lighting design is very intense; the upper bowl is more comfortable if you are light-sensitive.
  • Support is usually a DJ set of around an hour.
  • European stop counts are limited, so move on the day tickets go on sale.
  • The show wraps around two hours; allow 45 minutes for the exit crush at large stadiums.

How to plan travel around the concert

If you are flying abroad for a The Weeknd show, the order should be: buy the ticket first, search for flights only once you have it, and stay in a neighbourhood 20–30 minutes from the venue by public transport. Plan to be in the city at least a day before; a morning-of flight that runs late means missing the show.

If the same tour has several European stops, compare the combined cost of ticket, flights and two nights' stay across three cities. London, Paris and Amsterdam sell out fastest and cost the most; Berlin, Milan, Warsaw, Prague and Budapest are usually easier for tickets and noticeably cheaper overall.

Keep planning

Frequently asked questions

Which European cities does The Weeknd play?

European legs are usually limited to large stadiums: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm, Warsaw and Milan are typical stops. Because the city count is limited, tickets sell out fast.

Is a floor ticket better, or the stands?

Because the set and lighting are at the centre of the show, the lower bowl opposite the stage is the most balanced experience. If you want close contact, aim for the floor sections along the catwalk.

How long is the concert?

The main set usually runs close to two hours. With the support DJ set, plan for about three hours at the stadium in total.
