Tour setup: why several nights in a row in some cities?

Coldplay stadium tours are built around multiple nights per city. The stage is a huge structure that takes two or three days to put up, so once it is in place they play two, three or even four shows back to back. That is a real advantage if you are hunting for tickets: if night one is sold out, your odds on night two or three are much higher.

The band also announces tour dates region by region. The European leg usually falls between May and August; North America tends to land in late summer and autumn. Extra dates are often added while the current tour is still running.
