Who is Macklemore?

Macklemore is the stage name of Ben Haggerty, the rapper and songwriter born and raised in Seattle. He released his albums and mixtapes independently through the 2000s. The Heist, recorded with producer Ryan Lewis and released in 2012, took Thrift Shop to the top of the US charts without the backing of a major label, and Can't Hold Us and Same Love became two of the most-played songs of that era.

Macklemore continued his solo career with Gemini (2017) and Ben (2023). In 2026 he was booked as an opening act on the US stadium dates of Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour. In September 2026, after remarks on stage in support of Palestine, several stadium operators refused to allow him on the bill and he was removed from a number of dates.
